Ok for the people that have windows vista home premium and bussiness and would like Dreamscene on their machines i have got my hands on a patched version 
.
I have tested this and it fully works but please note you need to have aero enabled to run dreamscene and also you need a pretty decent graphics card.
Instructions Part1:
1. Click the Start button.
2. Click All Programs.
3. Go into Accessories.
4. Right-click on Command Prompt.
5. Select Run as administrator.
6. When the UAC Prompt appears, click Continue.
Once you have your elevated command prompt, follow these steps:
In this case, i’m taking example of “themecpl.dll” file:
1. At the command prompt, input takeown /f filepath (takeown /f c:\windows\system32\themecpl.dll).
2. Press Enter on the keyboard.
3. A message will be displayed that this completed successfully.
4. Now input icacls filepath /grant yourusername:f (icacls c:\windows\system32\themecpl.dll /grant user:f).
5. A message will be displayed that this completed successfully.
You will now be able to modify or replace the file. Repeat the steps for all the files. When you are done, simply remove the permissions to keep the file secure.
Instructions Part 2:
But you can copy and paste these paths into Windows Explorer, and it will figure it out for you.
1. Copy DreamScene.dll to %windir%\system32
2. Copy DreamScene.dll.mui to %windir%\system32\en-US
3. Rename the file themecpl.dll in %windir%\system32 to themecpl.dll.original
4. Copy this patched version of themecpl.dll to %windir%\system32
5. Rename the file themecpl.dll.mui in %windir%\system32\en-US to themecpl.dll.mui.original
6. Copy this version of themecpl.dll.mui to %windir%\system32\en-US
7. Create a new folder in %windir%\Web named “Windows DreamScene” (without quotes).
This is where you can place your videos, for easy access through the Personalization control panel.
8. Import DreamScene.reg
9. Reboot (or kill explorer.exe and run it again).
Once done right click on the desktop and go to desktop prefs then desktop background then on the drop down list select Video then just browse for the video you want to use.

It doesnt work here either. the manual way is confusing as hell. i simply opened the ‘windows’ folder to allow full read/write access to ‘everyone’ and it still doesnt work.
There is no other way other then the manual way if your having problemss sorry, i know the manual way works perfectly i tried this before i tried the patch version.
Trust me the manual way is actually better to do but it does seem confusing at first look.

im sure it works but im guessing some of us are unlucky or have slightly different configs?

Ok I’m having trouble renaming “themecpl.dll” to “themecpl.dll.original”. I went through all the part 1 instructions and it said ’successfully processed 1 files” each time for themecpl.dll. But when I go to the actual file it denies me permission to rename or copy over it.
Man i have no freaken idea about what you mean to do in MS DOS you dont make sence, you know what your talking about? wheres the screen shots you said you would do, since no one else could understand what you were onabout????

well guys i already have Windows Vista Ultimate and Dreamscene is AWESOME!…HOWEVER, my sister Susan hates all the Vistas ( i know she’s an idiot) and she was wondering if we can install or download Dreamscene from some website to her Windows XP!..is that in any way possable?????? becasue she alreayd downloaded the side-bar on her XP and now she is wondering about downloading dreamscene, please help her because she keeps naggine her ass off on me…FYI: i know that ur wondering “if she wants all of those Vista stuff, then why doesnt she just GET vista???!!!” well the answer is that she has SOO many valuable and important stuff on her XP and doesnt want to format it………

IT LOOKS AND FEELS BEAUTIFUL, THE HARD THING IS TO GET PASSED SYSTEM SECURITY, BUT ONCE THATS DONE. THE REST IS EASY. I SUGGEST NO REBOOT INSTEAD JUST KILL EXPLORER.EXE AND RUN AGAIN FROM TASK MANAGER.. VERY HAPPY GUY HERE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, U R AMAZING!!! ohh by the way::: its easier to right click on folder system32 then properties then securities then take ownership so u can rename the couple files needed than using the comand prompt, before you reload explorer give permissions back to system so you won’t have any problems on system config. i did not allow system to have full control of my pc. everything seems to be fine.

Hey Andrew, you can’t use Deskscapes within non Ultimate versions of Vista thats the downside to use this
, you can find video versions of some deskscapes though.

You have to open a video in the desktop background option under personalize, once you have done that you can right click the desktop and click run dreamscence.

I tried both the automatic install and the manual way, either way i just get ‘the page failed to load.’ when i go to ‘Personalize’. Which sucks a bit…
I noticed that alot of files go into en-US folder, would it matter if you used actual english settings on your windows install, i.e. english GB rather than US?
PS does anyone have a backup of the original files you replace for vista home premium as I buggered mine up so am now just left with ‘the page failed to load.’ on personalization, leaving me unable to edit any visual settings :p

i’ve successfuly gotten dreamscene to run, but in the personalization page under wallpaper i dont have a videos or dreamscene drop down item.. i did all the steps and the only way to do it is to open up the folder with all the videos and right clicking and selecting “set as desktop background” which i find inconvinient. any help?
Dreamscenes can run on vista premium,home basic etc; without changing any system files etc; it can be downloaded in your windows updates! I have home premium & windows updates has included it in my optional updates.
1.open notepad
2.copy & paste this:

3.save on your desktop as: SP1BetaRK_ext.cmd
4.double click to install; then reboot
5.check your windows automatic updates; you should then have ALL Vista ultimate features included in them.

I had problems so had to do a system restore in safe mode. Seems to have got me back to where I started from. Maybe I will have another try at this tomorrow. I have read on other sites that it causes problems with x64
It does not work on Vista 64 Home Premium. when you go to Control Panel\Personalization the screen is blank. i deleted the hacked files and put the old ones back and everything is working as before.
sure wish you would have made a 64-bit version.

this will not work for x64, and for those people who have had “page failed to load”, there is a solution that worked for me, you need to do a system restore in safe mode, takes literally 1 min

worked perfect on my vista home premium
I used to have an ultimate version but it’s a pirated version and I just liked ultimate because of dreamscene and the ultimate extra game “hold ‘em” but I can’t upgrade to SP1 so I installed my Genuine home premuim again and installed this crack and it really works, deskscapes also works for home premuim now!! sweet!!

This does work in VHPremium x64, but it does in fact hose up the Personalization window. I’m looking for a fix for this now.

microsoft must be use default on vista home premium. vista home is also not free edition. and mostly people interested to dreamscene who have home premium. if anybody can contact to microsoft should be say.
Thanks, this surely worked for home premium 32bit hp laptop. The screen shots helped a lot, got this working in about 15 minutes. You just have to be fairly experienced with windows and command prompt to get this running.
Hi, I had to try this myself before I’d belive it. But it seems that all 64bit users are experiencing problems with the personalize window. Well, so am I, but since I wasn’t going to keep the dreamscene anyway, then I’ll just RENAME MY BACKUPS, WHICH I MADE FOLLOWING THE TUTORIAL. You know, the “.ORIGINAL” files…
Anyway, if anyone get’s a fix for this, please post it in a comment here!!

Well actually i dont think every one can understand because while changing the extensions of the dll files in win32, it asks for permission. So make sure you just add some information for that too coz I dont think all people are capable of doing that.

Actually I have been searching for tutorials but others are really bad. This one with images really helped me a lot.
I tried this guide (which was very good) with no success. I’ve tried every single file and download I can find out there and nothing works. I just get “failed to load” in the personalization window. I have Windows Vista Home Premium x64. It seems a lot of us are having problems with it.
At least I was able to restore my computer. Just change the .original name back to normal. If you’re like me and tried many things and realized the originals are deleted and you erased all your system restore points, you can copy this files from another Vista Home Premium x64 computer to restore it. You can also ask me for the files.

ATTENTION !!! FOR ALL THOSE WHO GET “FAILED TO LOAD PAGE” ERROR WHEN ACCESSING PERSONALIZE AFTER USING SIMILAR SOFTWARE.
If you have the above mentioned problem reboot in safe and restore your system to a previous state using System restore mode(it won’t work if the system is not performed in safe mode).
Start your computer normally after.
Install DreamScene_EN_v4 running the application as Administrator (Right Click). After that just choose video files either .wmv or .mpg files by selecting “Dreamscene Content” from Desktop Background option in Personalize.
Don’t try with .dream files because this format is not supported.

Really good! It worked! But you must point out something: the file themecpl.dll.mui is not always located in en-US. If you’re using a spanish Windows, it will be somewhere else. In that case, you don’t have to rename it, just copy the new themecpl.dll.mui in en-US. And do all the other steps (I used the Part 2 steps). It will work. (To kill explorer, just right click the taskbar and select Task manager. In processes, select explorer.exe and delete it. Then go to File-> Run and type explorer.exe. The new option of DreamScene will appear in the menu when you right click the desktop.)
